    05/31/13 HON Suffering

Today's Hour One Nugget begins with 1st Peter 4:15.

15 If you suffer, however, it must not be for murder, stealing, making trouble, or prying into other people’s affairs.

David speaks to us today about the hard and dusty path we take up Mt Zion...there will be suffering along the way, but it should NOT be for doing evil! He speaks to us about living our lives in a way that is pleasing to Almighty God.

    Other scripture references: Matthew 28:18-20

05/29/13 DDD The Character Of Jesus Part 12–Fairness

We continue with the series The Character Of Jesus and part 12 on fairness comes from Matthew 7:12.

12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.

Are you being bullied? marginalized? shunned? No matter how we are being treated by others, we as Christians are to treat them the way we would WANT to be treated. Jesus always treated people with fairness.  We are to treat everyone this way...not just our Christian brothers and sisters.

05/29/13 HON Carrying The Flag of Christ

This Hour One Nugget comes from 1st Peter 4:14.

14 So be happy when you are insulted for being a Christian, for then the glorious Spirit of God rests upon you.

David Aldous questions what the point is of being a Christian if you never let anyone know about it?  He speaks to us about some of the costs of following Jesus and the rewards. We hear about the importance of carrying the flag/banner of our Lord.

05/28/13 DDD The Character of Jesus Part 11–Humility

David's Daily Devotional continues the series 'The Character of Jesus' with part 11- Humility, from Luke 22:27.

27 Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves.

David discusses humility and the need for every Christian to have it. He also tells us the relationship behind arrogance and humility.

    05/28/13 HON Partners With Christ

Today's Hour One Nugget comes from 1st Peter 4:13.

13 Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.

David speaks to us about these fiery trials and what we can do about them.

05/24/13 DDD The Character of Jesus Part 10–Forgiveness (Breaking Bread included)

David's Daily Devotional continues looking at The Character of Jesus. This is part 10 and David speaks to us about the characteristic of forgiveness.  Looking at Matthew 6:9-15.....

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

We are reminded that we cannot continue a life of unforgiveness...and why. David also speaks to us about forgiveness being an act of will and not of emotion.

This recording also contains breaking bread so have your elements ready for this beautiful time!

05/24/13 HON Going Through Fiery Trials

This Hour One Nugget is from 1st Peter 4:12:

12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.

Today David speaks to us about enduring the fiery ordeals...the troubles...that come our way. We see that endurance will eventually bring us to a point of needing nothing. We are reminded that it is a great privilege to know God's love!

05/23/13 DDD The Character of Jesus Part 9–Self-control

Self-control is the characteristic of Jesus that we look at in this Daily Devotional. David takes us to 1st Thessalonians 5:14-22:

14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil.

We hear about the importance of keeping our eyes on Jesus and spending time with God. David also speaks to us about being thankful in all circumstances.

05/23/13 HON Gifts of the Spirit Part 9–Translations of Tongues

Continuing from 1st Peter 4:11 for the last of the special series on gifts of the Holy Spirit.

11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

In this Hour One Nugget, David speaks to us about interpretation or translation of public tongues.  We know that the gifts are all to edify and build up the church so there is no condemnation in a legitimate interpretation.

    Other scripture reference: Romans 8:1

05/20/13 DDD The Character of Jesus Part 8–Gentleness

Isaiah 40:11 says:  11 He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young.

What a beautiful image of gentleness and thoughtfulness!

In David's Daily devotional today, we learn that gentleness is one of the great characteristics of Jesus. Therefore, it is a characteristic that we should have as well. We should be naturally gentle and forgiving...not harsh...especially with our words.

05/20/13 HON The Gifts of The Spirit Part 8–Speaking In Tongues

1st Peter 4:11:  11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

1st Corinthians 12:7-10: 7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said.

In this Hour One Nugget, David Aldous speaks to us about the gift of speaking in tongues which is given to some by the Holy Spirit. David distinguishes between the 'public' gift of tongues which requires interpretation and a 'prayer language' in an unknown tongue. We also learn how the evil one will come in and try to take this gift away by trying to convince us it is not real.

05/17/13 DDD The Character of Jesus Part 7–Faithfulness

Faithfulness is the characteristic of Christ that we look at today. Matthew 25: 21 says this about faithfulness....21 “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!'

Faithfulness is a characteristic we need in abundance that will preserve our faith making us dependable. We also look at faithfulness literally being...full of faith.

05/17/13 HON Gifts of The Spirit Part 7–Discernment

We return to 1st Peter 4:11 as David continues the series on the Gifts of the Spirit.

11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

David speaks to us about this gift that allows us to distinguish if a message is from God or from another spirit. We also hear that when all of the Gifts of The Spirit are in operation within a church, that we will find heart unity.

05/16/13 DDD The Character of Jesus Part 6–Goodness

David looks at Matthew 19:16-21 in this David's Daily Devotional. It says:

16 Someone came to Jesus with this question: “Teacher,[f] what good deed must I do to have eternal life?”

17 “Why ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. But to answer your question—if you want to receive eternal life, keep[g] the commandments.”

18 “Which ones?” the man asked.

And Jesus replied: “‘You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. 19 Honor your father and mother. Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

20 “I’ve obeyed all these commandments,” the young man replied. “What else must I do?”

21 Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

David speaks to us about idols and the necessity of making Jesus number one in our lives. We are looking at Christ's character and how He lived His life because He is our example to follow.

05/16/13 HON Gifts of the Spirit Part 6–Prophecy

The Gifts of the Spirit series continues with part 6 on prophecy.

Amen.

1st Corinthians 12:7-part of 10: 7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice[b]; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.[c] 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy.

David Aldous gives us insight on how to tell if a received word of prophecy is real...or if it is just rubbish. A true Word of Prophecy from the Lord has the power to change our lives!

05/14/13 DDD The Character of Jesus Part 5–Kindness

    In Ephesians 4:31-32 we read:

31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

In David's Daily Devotional today, David looks at kindness. The kindness of Christ is the same kindness that we should radiate. If we are not showing kindness, something is blocking it. Could it be unforgiveness? Do we forgive easily and quickly?

05/14/13 HON The Gifts of The Spirit–Miracles

This Hour One Nugget continues the series on the Gifts of the Spirit focusing on Miracles today.  1st Peter 4:10-11 and 1st Corinthians 12:8-the first part of 10 being the scriptures used.

    1st Peter 4:

10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

1st Corinthians 12: 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles

David Aldous speaks to us about what a miracle is...something that is totally impossible in the natural. He cautions us about using these gifts inappropriately. We also see that each Spirit filled believer will receive at least one of these gifts.

    05/10/13 Breaking Bread

1st Corinthians 11:23-31 is the text David uses today as we come together for the Lord's Supper.

23 For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread 24 and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.” 25 In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.” 26 For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.

27 So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28 That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup. 29 For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself. 30 That is why many of you are weak and sick and some have even died.

31 But if we would examine ourselves, we would not be judged by God in this way. 32 Yet when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned along with the world.

05/10/13 DDD The Character of Jesus Part 4–Patience

Today in David's Daily Devotional, David Aldous continues looking at the character...the characteristics of Jesus. We look at James 1:2-3 and patience.

2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

Paul tells us the same thing in his letter to the Romans...to be patient in trouble. When troubles come...we are to pray first...then be patient.

05/10/13 HON Gifts of the Spirit Part 4–Healing

    1st Peter 4:10-11 says:

10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

and 1st Corinthians 12:8-9: 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.[c] 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing.

In this Hour One Nugget, David Aldous continues speaking about Spiritual Gifts with the focus on the gift of healing today.  Healing is controversial and not everyone believes it still happens in this day and age. However, if you ever experience or witness it, it becomes much easier to believe....although we SHOULD believe it simply because the Bible says it.
